What is Monoethanolamine?
Monoethanolamine is a versatile ethanolamine, vital in multiple industries for its varied applications. This colorless liquid, known for its mild ammonia odor, plays a pivotal role in sweetening natural and coal gas. Additionally, it serves as a key component in heavy-duty detergents, acting as soap or amides.
Monoethanolamine Use in Products:
Food Industry: As a permitted ingredient in food-related articles, MEA is used in the production, processing, and packaging of food.
Gas Sweetening: MEA sweetens natural and coal gases.
CO2 Scrubbing: MEA efficiently eliminates carbon dioxide from combusted coal, combusted methane, and combusted biogas flue emissions, as well as effectively removing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from natural gas and liquid gas streams.
Health and Beauty: Used as an alkanolamide to increase viscosity in shampoos. Acts as a pH regulator, neutralizing agent, and reaction agent, forming salts or soaps.
Homecare/Industrial: MEA is a vital component as an anti-deposition agent and feedstock in the production of household products such as detergents, emulsifiers, and polishes.
Pharmaceutical Industry: Used for buffering and preparation of emulsions in pharmaceutical formulations and corrosion inhibitors.
Other Uses: MEA finds use as a feedstock in the production of ethylene amines, pharmaceutical formulations, cosmetics as a pH regulator, and more. It also acts as a softening agent for hides, a dispersing agent for agricultural chemicals, and is used in polishes, and the synthesis of surface-active agents.
